How To make Your Snellville Home Smell Better

As a Snellville renter, who doesn’t want to come home to a house that smells fresh and clean? As many renters know, unfortunately, some household smells cannot be masked quite that easily. Bad smells could permeate your home in many different ways. Spraying an air freshener or lighting scented candles would not fix the problem. These will only mask the smell but won’t eliminate them. Instead, to make your rental home smell better, you should nip the unpleasant smells at their very sources. Once you do this, your home will be clean and pleasant to live in. Cleaning these most common smelly-sources across your home will leave it smelling crisp and fresh!

Kitchen

The most common source of bad smells in your house is from old food we thought was completely disposed but left behind residue. Your garbage disposals, and/or your garbage bins are constantly being filled with waste. Garbage disposals are prone to emitting bad odors from rotting food debris that gets stuck on the blades. To get rid of the bad odors, put some lemon-scented dish soap or lemon rinds down the drain. Let hot water wash away the rinds and you will be left with a fresh lemon smell. Also, make sure to regularly rinse out your garbage bin. Chances are old food will get stuck on the sides and cause a rotten smell.

Humidity

In addition to your garbage disposal, humidity is also a major cause of bad indoor odors. A humid climate or a build-up of condensation on your windows may mean you have a lot of moisture in the air inside your home. Damp rugs, furniture, sponges, and towels can start to mold and smell bad. A dehumidifier or fan can help reduce the moisture build-up in your rooms. Make sure to dry towels and rugs thoroughly before they are stored or thrown in a hamper. Sponges should also be replaced every two weeks to prevent the spread of old germs and bacteria.

Household Items

After you have checked the garbage disposal and corrected the humidity levels, but notice that there are still bad smells, you can also clean these other sources of bad smells. Litter boxes, diaper pails, and old storage boxes can smell dreadful if left unattended. Refrigerators can also be a source of bad smells. Expired food and moldy leftovers can stink up the area. Make it a frequent habit to clear your refrigerator of food past its expiration date and lightly scrub the surfaces with hot, soapy water. You can also wipe down the interior of your fridge with a water and white vinegar mixture to remove any remaining bacteria. Remember not to use bleach, as this is not safe to use around food.

Fabrics

As you are doing this, it would also be a good time to refresh your soft surfaces. Fabrics easily trap smells and make it hard to keep a pleasant-smelling home. It is best to steam-clean carpets and upholstery at least once a year. Another tip to freshen carpets and rugs is to sprinkle some baking soda on them and then vacuum thoroughly. Any urine spots should also be immediately cleaned with an enzyme cleaner so that they don’t leave any bad odors. It is also best to wash bed linens, pillows, and other soft surfaces regularly to keep unpleasant odors away.

Extra Tips

If you have already cleaned your house thoroughly, but the undesirable smells still linger, here are a few more tips for you. Open your windows and air out your house to get rid of trapped odors. This is a very good way to prevent cooking odors and smoke from being trapped inside your house. Scented candles can deodorize your home and add a pleasant scent. You can also simmer herbs and fruit over the stove. Citrus slices, lavender, and mint have a pleasant aroma and can help replace other smells. Keep in mind, though, that strong scents are not always the best choice for interior spaces. Avoid overly sweet or pungent scents that can usually become overpowering; opt instead for natural florals, citrus, or woods. These subtle scents give off a subtle but charming aroma.

Hopefully, after cleaning your home, you will have it smelling crisp and clean with these tips! There is nothing better than a fresh-smelling house, alongside the scents of your favorite candle, or favorite home-cooked snack!
